Today was much better. I can tell that the kids were doing their very best to not talk. I appreciate the parents that talked to their children, it made a big difference.
Here is what we did today:
Small group: Centers and Guided Reading
Math: Today we made arrays with square chips. Arrays are flat, square and rectangular shapes. This was to help the students see how to find the factors of any number. This also helped them to find the meaning of multiplication and divisibility. For example, the number 6 has the factor pairs 1 x 6 (which is 1 row of 6 chips), 2 x 3 (2 rows of 3 chips). Therefore, the factors of 6 are 1, 2, 3, 6. Knowing these factor will help the students to understand the concept of divisibility and multiplication. Tomorrow we will talk about prime and composite as well as prime factorization.
Computers: they explored a site called the truepix. It help them to find ways to find information on US History.
Read chapter 7 of our book.
Social Studies: learned about atlas and found US States by using latitude and longitude.
We changed tables. I think that this will be a better fit and will help with our talking problem. We also got to pick table names.
Today I also handed out Scholastic book orders. You can now order online. There are more choices online but if you can't order online, you can pick what you want and send a check and I will order it for you. Remember, everytime you order, I get a free book to put in our classroom library. The link is www.scholastic.com/bookclubs
HW:
