Small group time: I had students work in centers and meet with me in guided reading groups. For the next few weeks I will be working on fluency. This means I will be asking students to practice their "out loud" reading voice.
Math: We learned a bit more about decimals and their meaning. Then, we did an activity where we divided squares into equal parts of ten. For example, we first divided it into ten equal parts and then colored in .2 of that which is also the same as 2/10. Then we divided that into 100 equal parts and colored in .05 which is also 5/100. etc.
We also learned how to write standard numbers into expanded form with powers of ten. For example, 825.4 = (8 x 100) + (2 x 10) + (5 x 1) + (4 x .1)
There is homework on this.
We had a spelling pretest. We are focusing on the short u sound this week. If they got all the words correct then they do not have to do the test on Friday. However, everyone has to turn in the spelling packet by Friday. I will give students a little time to do it on Wednesday but the rest is their responsibility to finish and turn in by Friday.
All the spelling words for the whole year in the documents section of this blog.
Read Aloud: We read Ch. 4
Science: We learned the steps of the scientific method and then conducted an experiment with plastic/fortune telling fish. Ask your child about this and have them tell how we figured out the mysteries about the fish by using science.
Writing: We are still in our pre-writing stage. Today we used a graphic organizer to ask the 5 W's of our personal narrative.
HW: Read for 20 mins. (Remember book report books are due on Thursday morning)
Math: Yellow worksheet (I will post by 5pm if you didn't get one).
Optional: finish you spelling packet if you want. It's due on Friday.
