Small group time:
We started with our centers. In our centers we are reviewing our timeline of US history up to the ratification of the Constitution. In Writing, we are doing word sorts. This helps students to recognized parts of speech (nouns, verbs, etc). Math--they are working on making fractions out of figures in a picture.
Also, I explained to them that they are to choose their own book this month. They will have a book report due on this at the end of the month.
I met with a few groups to review DRA taking tips.
We started the whole group time with an editing activity on John Muir.
Social Studies:
We talked about Daniel Boone and the Cumberland Gap through the Appalachian Mountains. We also started on the Louisiana Purchase.
Math: We learned about mixed number and improper fractions. They learned how to convert them back and forth. For example,
14/5 = 2 4/5
Science: They met with Mr. Alder to talk about chemical change.
Writing: In preparation for persuasive essays, we are first doing a debating activity. In order to ensure good debating etiquette, we talked about how to agree and disagree politely.
We ended the day by reading from "The Ranger's Apprentice"
HW:
Math: worksheet 7-3 on mixed number and improper fractions.
Science: they had a worksheet given to them by Mr. Alder.
Spelling: Don't forget these packets are due on Friday
