Today was a good day. First of all, I was here so there was no drama today.
Here is what we learned:
Small group time: DRAs and working on book report.
Computers with Mrs. Belletti
Math: We did a review and an assessment of the last weeks lessons.
Spelling test #16
Last day to work in groups for the debate. We are going to start next week.
We ended the day talking about what Civil Rights means to them. We looked a kids Discovery magazine about Civil Rights. We talked about Jim Crow laws and how segregation laws have been changed over the years. We also practiced our song about Martin Luther King, Jr.
HW: They are supposed to talk with you about what Civil Rights means to you.
Also, there is a national 5th grade essay contest that I would like the students to write. The paper that explains the rules and requirements is on the class website but I will also send home a copy on Tuesday. It basically has them writing an essay that is <150 words about "What my mother means to me." It is due on February 10th.
