I acted and behold, service was joy.

January 18, 2011

Sorry about this being late.

Today:

during small group time, I went over some DRA scores with each child. We made some goals on what we wanted to improve for the next term. We also have centers that focus on simplifying fractions, more on Louis and Clark, and drawing 2-point perspective buildings.

Whole group:
We started on a new edit called "Pizza Thursday."

Spelling week 17. Bonus words are segregation and persuade.

Social Studies: We started on the War of 1812. We talked about impressment of naval sailors and how British supplying guns to Indians which led to Indian rebellion (Tecumseh was mentioned).

Math: We talked about how to convert fractions into decimals and how to compare the fractions with different denominators.

Science: Mr. Alder (chemical change)

Debates: We had our first debate (cell phones in schools). This was a great start to our debating. the students did a great job. The discussion really got the students involved in asking questions about many perspectives and trying to persuade each other with logical evidence as well as with common sense methods. I am excited to hear from the other debates.

We ended by reading from the Ranger's Apprentice.

HW:
Math: r/p 7-12 and E 7-13
