I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.

Friday, November5

Today we:

had computers with Mrs. Belletti.

Math: Reviewed estimating with division. A lot of the students did not see the reasoning behind estimating so we talked about how estimating can help us to solve the problems later. For homework, I am going to have them practice the process of double -digit division a bit more. It seems to a pretty hard concept it was hard for me to get to every student today so, if you could, please help your child understand if they are confused.

Writing: I had the students look at ads that I got out the newspaper. We practice identifying persuasive strategies in everyday ads. If you want to talk with you child about this, here are the strategies that we are discussing:

Big name: using a famous person to prove the value of your product. (Koby Bryant on the Wheaties box)
Logos: Using numbers, graphs, tables, etc to convince buyers that their product is the best buy. (A 15 minute call can save you 15% on car insurance).
Pathos: Using emotional response to lurer your buyer into buying your product. (Putting pictures black widow spiders all over the ad for a pest control company).
Ethos: Using trustworthy or personal comments to help buyer to think that your product is trustworthy. (I have tasted many different kinds of pizza but papa murphy's is the best).
Kiaros: Convincing the buyer to hurry and buy. (Act now or you'll miss the chance of a lifetime!)
Research: Showing scientist or doctor's research to prove the validity of the product (9 out of 10 dentist would recommend Crest toothpaste).

HW: Math page 219-220 #1-28 (If you can, please help your child understand these problems).

Thanks and have a great weekend.
