AM-- chips and salsa party for getting the most reading minutes.
PM-- reading/centers
Writing: Today we talked about bound verses. We went over the rules of couplets, triplets, and quatrains. Students learned that a foot is a stress + unstressed sound. Also we discussed the different formats of the rhyming lines of the poem. For example, a triplet can have a ABA or AAA format but NOT a ABB or AAB.
An example poem of AAA is:
Creak, squeak, bump in the night (A)
I wake up in such a fright (A)
I jump up to turn on the light! (A)
An ABA format would be:
The presents that you bring (A)
Are not only just for me (B)
Because you brought the spring. (A)
Math: Today we went over homework and practiced a few more times with order of operations. REMEMBER it is Parenthesis, Exponents, (multiplication or division [whichever comes first from left to right]) and then (Addition or Subtraction [whichever one comes first from Left to right]).
Read "Redwall"
Social Studies: Today we discussed the 3 branches of government that is stated in the Constitution: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. We talked about their duties and looked at pictures of those that holding that office. I didn't go into detail because this will be covered in US History and Government in Jr. High school. I just gave them an overview. We also went over the Preamble of the Constitution. We went over the meaning of the words and then listened to a song written by the "School of Rock" that will help us to remember the words.
