I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.

Day 78

AM/PM Centers/DRA/Reading

Writing: Today we practiced our debating topics with our opposing teams, one on one. Tonight students are supposed to practice with their parents for about 5-10 mins.

Math: Today we reviewed how to look at solid objects in different perspectives (top, bottom, side, side, Front, Back). Then, we talked about how to make a net with those different views. We started this by looking at the various way of looking at the net of a cube (rectangular prism). We learned that there only 11 ways to make a net of a cube and that it is because there will always be 14 as the perimenter.

Read Aloud/SS

Social Studies: Today we had a lesson about the Battle at Lexington and how it was the battle that created the term "The Shot Heard Around the World." We watched a School House Rock video about that. Then, we talked about Thomas Jefferson and how he came up with the contents of the Declaration of Independence. We read the beginning of the Declaration of Independence and learned that it was signed and ratified on July 4th, we learned about the Liberty Bell and how it cracked on the day the Declaration was ratified. We also learned a Hope of America Song about the Declaration. We discussed the important line "All men are created equal" and men deserve the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

We also heard part of Martin Luther Kings speech "I have a Dream" We listened to the part where he quoted the Declaration of Independence by saying "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal..."
