Today:
Small group: Still working on fluency. Please practice by reading out loud at home.
Math: We reviewed factor trees and prime factorizations but then added some information about using powers or exponents. For example, the prime factorization of 36 is 2 x 2 x 3 x 3. I could use powers or exponents to write it as a contraction but it is hard to write it on the computer. It is 2 with the power or 2 (a little 2 above the 2) and then 3 with the power of 2 (a little 2 above the 3).
We also talked about the sieve of Eratothenes. This was when we looked at the numbers that are 1 - 100. We used Eratothenes' formula to find all the prime numbers between 1 and 100.
Writing: We are starting the writing process of our personal narratives. Today we talked about how our word choice can effect the voice in our story. We read an example and then did a free write for about 10 mins. This was to help get our story started on paper. We will work on this for the next week.
Science: We talked more about how magnets are electrons pulling. We learned that there are only 3 elements that are magnetic: iron, nickle, and cobalt. We learned that in order to make a paperclip stick together magnetically, we had to make the domains pull in the same direction. We did an experiment where we used disc magnets and dragged them across the clip. This helped the clip to become magnetic.
Grammar: We practiced our preposition song. This has to be memorized by Monday.
Team Building Activity: All the tables got 2 pieces of paper, a paper clip, a sticky note, and a piece of tape. They had 15 mins to build the highest building. The winning team got a free homework ticket.
HW: Read out loud for 20 mins.
Memorize your preposition song.
