Okay, so today was fun.
We are still taking the reading assessments (DRA) and I hope to have those finished and graded over the weekend. Then, I will start guided reading groups to focus on areas that need work.
Social Studies: We finished up our world maps. We learned where the equator, prime meridian, tropic of capricorn/cancer lines up on the world continents. Then we glued them on big blue construction paper. We did with with some music and had a great time.
Computers: with Mrs. Mattison. Students are practicing their typing skills. They can do this at home by clicking on the link to the left called Dance Mat.
I got to start reading out loud with the kids today. I do this right after lunch for about 15 minutes while the kids practice their cursive writing. This is called Read Aloud time. It is to help kids hear what fluent reading should sound like and also gets them excited about reading some of my favorite books. We are now reading "The BFG" by Roald Dahl.
Math: We tried to take a pretest for our first math unit. This was done on the portable laptops. However, we had technical difficulties. We will try again tomorrow.
All of our tests will be on the computer this year. I am doing this because all of the end of the year CRT tests will be done on the computer and I want them to be used to taking tests this way.
Our first math unit will be on place value and prime and composite numbers. It should last about 2 weeks.
Last of all, we went outside and played soccer with Mr. Schultz' class.
HW: Read for AT LEAST 20 minutes (make sure students are recording this on their homework folder.
practice typing on dance mat for 15 mins.
