Welcome back!! I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring break. I had a blast but I really did miss the kids.
Here is what we did today:
AM/PM We read with our 1st grade buddies and then had some reading time. All students need to finish their book by next Monday, April 25th. They will be finding the main ideas of the story and then will create a skit that they will write up and perform for the class in 2 weeks. Please make sure that they are recording their reading stars in their homework folders.
Math: IMPORTANT!...I put together a math review book for all the kids. It has 80 pages and I believe that it contains everything that they need to know for the CRTs that are coming up (May 13, 16-18). We are going to review our math by using these books. We will be using them for class lessons and homework. We will be grading them so parents can see their progress and then help at home with anything that I can't get to at school. Please check up on these every night for the next 3 weeks. In order for them to do the best that they can on the test, they will need to be looking at these books regularly, checking their understanding, and fixing any misunderstood concepts. Today, we reviewed place value and compared decimal numbers. I noticed that a lot of the students forgot about the expanded notation. i.e. 9,437 = (9 x 10 3) + (4 x 10 2) + (3 x 10 1) + (7 x 10 0). [I don't know how to make the superscript for the powers of ten]. For homework, they are finish pages 1 -3. These will be graded tomorrow.
Social Studies: Today, we talked about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Outside our class, we have WANTED posters for John Wilkes Booth. This week the students will be writing/designing the front page of a newspaper articles that announces the death/assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
HW:
Math: page 1-3 in our Math Review Book.
Please practice Hope of America songs...the Hope of America people are coming on Friday to see how the kids are doing. I will give the kids a printed up copy of the words tomorrow.
