Small group: We are preparing to start writing our Non-Fictions books. I went over all the conventions that they have looked at over the last week and made a list and talked about how they help us to teach us the information. Then, they practiced identifying different kinds of convention by reading a magazine.
Social Studies: We started talking about the Underground railroad. We listened to the song "Follow the Drinking Gourd." Then, we read a book about true story of an Underground conductor named John Parker and how he was able to help a family with a small baby escape from slavery.
Math: The students learned how to find the surface area of rectangular prisms by cutting out nets on graph paper and then counting up the squares. Homework deals with using the formula Surface Area = 2(l x w) + 2(l x b) + 2(b x h)
Writing: We are practicing our cursive writing and then we discussed how to identify the subject, action verb, and direct object.
Also, some of the students recited their memorized poems.
Happy Birthday to Madi.
HW:
Math: 10-3 Finding the surface area
Writing: Worksheet on finding the Direct Object in a sentence with action verbs.
Also, I feel really bad because our class worked really hard to get the Road to Success pizza party but Mrs. Willis' class won. So, because the class did very well, I thought we should do something to show the kids that they did a great job. So, we decided in class to have our own pizza party. So, I told them, if they could, bring a dollar and then, I will pay the rest. If there is a mom or dad out there that could volunteer to get the pizzas, please give me a class and we can set up the time and things. We are hoping to do this on Thursday.
