Mrs. Varner's class blog.

I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.

February 18, 2011

Today we were missing about 9 people. I am sure a lot of you are looking at this blog...at least I hope.

What we did....

During small group time, I met with book clubs and discussed a goal to finish their book by next week. They are supposed to do a book report in class. This will be due on March 1.

Computers: Students did a mock DWA test on www.utahwrite.com This printed up a score that told them what they would get if they were to take the test today. They printed these scores up. I told them to take them home to show their parents.

Math: To reinforce and review our last couple math lessons on measurement, I had the kids go outside in groups of 2-3 and measure various items with either a yard stick, small ruler, or a meter stick. They had to measure things like the perimeter of the playground, one brick on the building, etc. This was fun. They have a homework sheet on that tonight.

Writing: We read "The Road Less Taken" by Robert Frost and discussed the meaning behind it.

Art: Thanks again to Mrs. Bateman for coming in to teach us Art. She did a fantastic job helping the kids learn about making shapes with shading. They also made robots with various shapes. You can check out these on our hall wall.

HW:

READ!! Make sure that you are recording your minutes. I have a feeling our class is going to win the Road to Success Reading Pizza party!
Math: Worksheet called "Review 9-1 thru 9-5" online
Option: Go to www.utahwrite.com and pick any lesson. Play for a least 20 minutes.

Have a great weekend....remember no school on Monday!-)
