Today was a fun day.
AM small group: They earned the most minutes for reading so they earned a party. We had chips and salsa and played games.
PM small group: We got our new book club books. These are books that should be done in 2 weeks. They inferred what the book will be about and made a goal to read.
Class meeting: Today we talked about the value of hard work. I gave them a quote: "If you avoid difficult things; great things will avoid you." We talked about why it is important to not shy away or avoid things that may seem hard. In order to do great things in their life, they have to almost always have struggles that will prevent them from success. We shouldn't avoid these but should look at them head on with courage and determination. So, when we do succeed, we will appreciate and enjoy the glory of true success.
We started our study of the Mid-western region. They should have these memorized by Friday.
Spelling Week 19. The bonus words are Des Moines and Indianapolis.
Math: We had a long math lesson today. It was a difficult concept: fraction in word problems. This is a hard lesson but it is a very good lesson. Rather than just solving fraction problems, students have to apply their knowledge of fractions into real life situations. We will review this lesson tomorrow. I know a lot of them struggled but have no fear, they will get it and they will be all the better because they did.
I also had another review during lunch recess. I will give the chapter 7 retest tomorrow for those who want to take it. It will be during lunch.
HW:
Math: The blue worksheet on word problems (online called 8-3a)
Spelling Week 19
Memorize the mid-western region states and capitals.
ALSO: I am sorry but I have been a little behind on getting assignments onto Skyward. I know a lot of you are trying to get you child caught up with missing assignments. I will try to get everything onto the system by Thursday or Friday. Thanks for working with your child. It makes all the difference.
