Day 153

AM/PM--CRT--language Arts portion. Math Review--adding fractions. Math: Today we reviewed for the test. Book Fair Writing: Book Sharing of Non fiction books . Read Aloud: Today we finished "Homer P. Figg." Please ask your child about this book. It will give them a chance to talk about the Civil War. Social Studies: We talked about Harriet Tubman being the "Moses" of the Underground Railroad. We also read a book about her and another called "Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt." It is about how a girl made a quilt that was a map that helped people find the Underground Railroad. We also used Google Earth to looked at the North Star (Polaris) in the Drinking Gourd (Big Dipper) and talked about how it is a tool for the run away slaves. We also learned about Lichen, which a fungi that grows on the north side of the tree. Runaway slaves would use this as a guide as they were running on cloudy nights. HW: Read Guided Reading Book Study for the Math test tomorrow.
