Today we:
Did several DRAs and read our book report books.
Practiced our editing on a paragraph of Dolly Madison.
We then watched a movie about the westward expansion and took a quiz.
Math: We talked about how to find the Greatest Common Factor. It was a very easy lesson all the kids seemed to understand very well.
Science: With Mr. Alder
A BIG thank you to Mr. Facemeyer for coming in to day and talking about what it is like to be a lawyer. He did a great job teaching the kids about looking at different points of views in preparation for our debates. The kids learned a lot. Thanks again.
Also, I am going to give the students a few more days to prepare for their debates. I know that these debates are a bit difficult for the students because it is hard for them to think of multiple points of views, think of possible outcomes, and finding words to says the things that they want to say. However, this is all a preparation process for persuasive essays that are coming up in a few weeks. Parents, please feel free to help them organize their thoughts by talking with them and asking them questions. I told them today that I do not expect them to be perfect debater but I do expect to follow the rubric which has been handed out. I warned them that they could prepare a lot and still not get a good grade if they didn't follow the rubric. Remember the rubric is on the website if you lost it or need another copy. I will give them all about 3 more days to prepare. We will present out debates next week.
