I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.

Thursday, October 28

First of all, I want to apologize for all the emails I sent in attempt to give you good and bad news. It really wasn't my fault though. Sam Farnsworth (our tech guy) wanted me to apologize to everyone for him. He said he had some issues with the email system today but got it fixed. I sent it the fourth time and I think that it went thru by then.

If you didn't get the email mail here is a copy of it:

Dear Parents,

I have some good news and bad news:

Bad news: I just noticed today that I didn't click on the "post missing assignments" button on skyward. If you have checked previously on skyward and saw that there weren't any missing assignments, it might have been wrong. Please check it again to see if you child is missing any assignments. Sorry about that.

Good news: Thanks to Misti and Brian Ridge, I have found a great way for your child to practice the exact lessons we are doing in class, at home. The Scott Foresman book company has a link that has practice lessons and games that are the exact lessons we are doing in class. These games, lesson, and practice quizzes can help your child to improve their performance on test! It also keeps track of each individual student's scores so that you and I can access them and see what subjects need more practice (and it's fun for the kids!)

I put the link on our class page but here is the link if you want to look at it now:
www.pearsonsuccessnet.com/snpapp/login/login.jsp

Notice, you will need a log in and password to get in. The log in is your child's first initial and last name then the first 4 digits of their birthday.
For example: If the student was John Smith born on 02/14/2000, their log in would be JSmith0214. (Note: the first two letters are capitalized!!)

The password is cougars (all lowercase letters).

Please take a moment and look over this site with your student in the next few days. I will talk to them in class about it tomorrow. I hope that by letting them play these games and practice at home they will learn faster and better which will increase learning and also allow both you and I to see the progress that they are making in their math learning.

Please email me if you have any questions.

As for what we did today:

We had our Book Club Report today. This was done during small group time. The kids were supposed to read a chapter book that I assigned to them at the beginning of the month. They were supposed to write down 5 detailed questions about the book and then answer the question. I then collected the questions and then randomly asked the question to other members of their book club. This was to help with accountability with their book club meetings and comprehension of the book itself.

Then, we corrected their math homework. I used this as a last minute review for the test.

After library, I gave out the test and it looks like the students did very well. I am excited to get those graded. The students seemed to be doing quite well. They have worked hard on this unit and I think the work has really paid off.

After lunch, we had science. There was a science test on their electricity unit given by Mr. Alder.

Writing: We had one last edit and discussion of expectations. The kids seem to be really excited to turn in and share their stories (which we will do tomorrow).

HW: Finish your Halloween stories.
